Landscaping Ideas

Having your garden properly landscaped will not only improve the look of your property but will increase its value when you go to sell.  Having garden is lovely during the warmer months as you can enjoy time relaxing outdoors, and if you have a veranda it can give you somewhere shaded to sit and also entertain.  Landscaping can also include building other structures in your garden like pergolas or rose arbors.

Retaining wall

If your property is on a slope you may have to build retaining walls.  The important thing to remember when building a retaining wall is to make sure they are straight.  If it is too difficult then contact a fencing contractor as often they do retaining walls as well.  A retaining wall will give your garden interesting levels which you can put your plants on.

Hedges

There are various different plants that you can plant which will grow into a hedge.  Hedges do take time to become established into hedge shape and once grown you do need to maintain them.  Having a sharp pair of hedge clippers will help you do the job.  Some of the different plants you can choose from include Orange Jessamine and Cape Plumbago.   Hedges are great to border different areas of your garden or even create separate rooms in your back garden.

Paving

Outdoor paving is perfect for an entertainment area or pathways.  You can buy pavers in various different stones, like sandstone or blue stone or even cheaper concrete pavers.  Paving will help break up your garden and eliminate the need to walk across the grass and wear pathways in your lawn.

Decking

If your garden is more on a slope and you want to have an entertainment area your option might be to build a timber decking.  If you are handy you can build it yourself or hire a builder.  As well as being a great area for your outdoor furniture it is a good area for children to play.  You can even enclose the deck with a balustrade and a gate if you have young children that you want to keep an eye on.

Pergola

To create shade in your back garden a pergola is a great option.  You can build it big enough to put your outdoor furniture under and you can also grow things like climbing roses or vines over it.  A pergola can be the feature of your back garden.

Water feature

A water feature will add a calming relaxing element to your garden.  You can have either a pond with goldfish, a water fall, or even a water feature that you attach to the boundary wall.

Garden beds

Garden beds are are important part of your garden.  When designing your garden think about the size and shape of your garden beds and what will work best in the space you have.  Think about what sort of plants you want to put in and make them big enough to accommodate the plants when they are fully grown.

Lawn

It is no good having a great garden if your lawn is bare and patchy.  Buy quality lawn seed and when you sow it make sure that you spread it thickly.  Don’t forget to water it regularly until it shoots and maintain your lawn by mowing it before it gets out of control.
