How to Increase the Peace at Home with These Decor Ideas

Turn your cluttered living space into a peaceful retreat by bringing in living plants and fresh flowers. Choose soothing colours that are right for the size of the room and most importantly make sure your bedroom is all about getting a good night sleep.
Plants and Flowers
Bringing nature inside the home is very soothing and also increases oxygen. In Feng Shui indoor plants or a bouquet of fresh flowers bring balance and harmony into the home. Planting sweet smelling flowers, such as Roses, Lavender and Jasmine outside the windows and around the entrance way allows the sent to flow inside with the breeze. The Japanese style of flower arrangement called Ikebana was first practiced by Buddhist priests and is very calming and simple. A glass vase with white pebbles in the base and a simple white orchid arrangement is the ultimate statement of tranquillity and style.
Colour Therapy
Both warm and cool colours can create a peaceful mood in your home depending on the size of the rooms and the amount of natural light. If the rooms are very large then warm colours will bring the walls in, making the room cosy. If the rooms are smaller then a cool colour such as pale blue will create the impression of spaciousness. Blues and greens are very soothing and tranquil colours however if you do not get enough natural light into the house, white walls will compensate. To balance out the room add touches of the opposite colour palate in the details such as vases, cushions and throws. A room should never be all warm or all cool colours.
Bedroom Bliss
In Feng Shui the bedroom is the place where you sleep. Bringing work, entertainment and clutter into the bedroom can disrupt sleep and create anxiety. The bed should be against a solid wall and facing the door. Make sure there is no junk hidden under the bed, only spare blankets and linen should be underneath where you are sleeping. Plants, flowers or a tiny Japanese rock garden can lower blood pressure and decrease anxiety just by looking at them. If you have trouble sleeping bring some nature into the bedroom. Avoid sharp edges or long sticks and go for circular petals or rounded leaves.
In the bedroom it is important to have two of everything, even if you are single. Have two pillows, two lamps and two pictures. This balances the room and also invites new possibilities into your life. Minimise electronic devices, especially the television. Even when it’s turned off the television creates electromagnetic fields that can disturb sleep. A large Amethyst crystal placed on top of electronic items can help balance this energy.
Less Mess to Stress Less
A minimalist decorating style enhances tranquillity. Organise bookshelves and keep your paperwork filed away so you are not seeing unpaid bills or being reminded of work when you are trying to relax. Mess creates stress and anxiety so the less clutter the better you feel. Make sure there is enough space around the furniture to move freely to avoid feeling overwhelmed. In the bedroom this is especially important. Seeing clutter or mess in the bedroom can create panic and cause insomnia.
